My family and I like to go on a lot of road trips. We drove to Portland, Oregon last year and on the way, we always pass through small towns and I can't help but feel a little uncomfortable in some of these places, especially when we stop at a rest stop in Northern California or Oregon along I-5 or something and everyone there is a big trucker guy and I'm just this gay boy... I just get the feeling that these places are more conservative and less accepting of gays. I remember one time seeing people with "God Hates Fags" signs in Placerville, California. That made me kind of wary of that place now... I'm not assuming everyone who lives there is bad or prejudiced or anything, it's just that I know that the San Francisco and Los Angeles area are not like the rest of the state or the country and I'm very aware of it.
